The Somalia Livelihoods Support (SOLIS) project was implemented in two phases of 12 and 17 months respectively, ending in November 2012. It started during the end of the rainy season in 2010, continued through the drought and subsequent famine of 2011 (the worst drought to hit Somalia in 60 years) and ended at a time of sporadic rain in 2012. The program goal was to save human lives and reduce suffering by strengthening the livelihoods of drought, flood and conflict affected families in Somalia. Due to increasing insecurity in the south, the project was modified in the second quarter, and was exclusively implemented in the northwest of the country (Somaliland), where there was relative calm and security.
