The purpose of this is to increase agricultural output with improved systems, increase efficiency of water delivery and use in agriculture, and improve equity among farmers. RIIP will plan, design, and construct improved, operationally efficient irrigation systems. It builds on the experience of the earlier Egypt Water Use and Management Project expanding it to selected canal commands throughout the country to further test and demonstrate the concept of increased farmer responsibility for improvement, operation and maintenance of the water delivery system. It also incorporates the element of cost recovery to improve allocative efficiency.
