Aquaculture is becoming more important in developing countries as a means of providing larger quantities of protein needed for adequate diets and as an important contribution to economic growth. This report summarizes the activities of the International Center for Aquaculture during fiscal year 1976. Academic and training programs were strengthened with the initiation of new courses in fish genetics and breeding, aquacultural economics, and a special five month aquacultural training program for foreign students. The services contributed significantly to the capability of the center in the areas of education and training, extending the knowledge base, advisory capacity, information capacity, and linkages and networks.
