To provide parameters for estimating the vital statistics of commercially important Philippine fishes, a detailed analysis was made of electronic length-frequency data collected from 1957 to 1981. This analysis used data supplied mainly by the Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, covering 0.9 million single fish measurements of 23 fish families, including 34 genera and 56 species of commercially exploited teleost fishes. The results are presented in 112 plates, each providing an outline drawing of a fish; its name; sampling location and date; a graphic representation of the length-frequency data with superimposed growth curve; a length-converted catch curve used for estimating total mortality; a recruitment (population growth) pattern for determining the seasonality of spawning and recruitment; and a graph of probabilities of capture plotted against length to estimate mean length at first capture. A legend provides the numerical values of the estimates of growth, mortality, and exploitation rate, the source of data used, brief comments on the fish's biology, and references for further information.
