There is much over irrigation of turf. Some is unavoidable but significant savings of water can be had from a better understanding of the principles of scheduling irrigation. Irrigation scheduling is greatly facilitated by uniformity of soil depth and moisture storage capacity. This paper describes the basic principles of irrigation and provides a simple and reliable method for calculating the rate at which grass is using water.
