Water- and sanitation-related diseases are major causes of illness and death among people in both rural and urban areas in many developing countries. This technical note describes what causes these diseases, how they are spread and the factors influencing their transmission. Methods for preventing the transmission of the water- and sanitation-related diseases are not included in this document.
