The major findings and conclusions of a watershed resources/water supply analysis prepared for the Ruhengeri Resource Analysis and Management Project in Rwanda are presented. The report's eight substantive chapters: (1) furnish the basic hydrologic data on which the analysis was based and discusses the sources of these data; (2) review the four representative watersheds in the Ruhengeri Prefecture according to their varying hydrologic character, using a model given for preliminary water balance analysis; (3) present a preliminary analysis of water resource issues and recommendations for further interventions; (4) review water supply issues such as quantity, quality, and institutional capabilities (especially sustainability), as well as options for water supply systems; (5) inventory the known sources of domestic water in the Prefecture, offering cost data by commune; (6) outline the quantity of water needed to meet domestic water demands, also by commune; (7) provide recommendations for alternative programs in watershed management and domestic water supply; and (8) summarize conclusions and recommendations. Appendices and text offer hydrologic and water systems data.
