Tilapia research encompassing a wide range of disciplines from the biological to the social sciences is represented in these conference proceedings. Whereas the previous international tilapia conference focused on the problems of stunting and overpopulation of ponds, the papers contained herein indicate that the field has transcended these problems to concentrate on improvement of tilapia breeds and culture systems to suit a wide range of socioeconomic circumstances. Abstracts and summaries are provided of reports on the following topics: culture systems, management, and production (13 papers); pathology (3 papers); genetics and reproduction (26 papers); nutrition (16 papers); physiology (5 papers); biology and ecology (13 papers); and economics and socioeconomics (6 papers). The report also includes abstracts of poster papers on the following: culture systems, management and production (8 papers); genetics and reproduction (2 papers); nutrition (1 paper); physiology (3 papers); biology (1 paper); and economics and socioeconomics (2 papers). Includes author, geographic, and fish species indexes.
