Aquaculture
According to the World Resources Institute, aquaculture—or fish farming—has grown rapidly to meet world fish demand, more than doubling production between 2000 and 2012. New research shows that aquaculture production will need to more than double again between now and 2050 to meet the demands of a growing population. Resources available in this sub-theme include aquaculture development strategies, country-wide aquaculture project reports, and institutional practices for aquaculture strengthening, among other resources that support improving aquaculture globally.

Pond Dynamics/Collaborative Research Data Reports Volume Three: Indonesia Project
Published:
June 1, 1988U.S. Agency for International Development
Data for various physical, chemical and biological parameters were collected in 1983-84 at the Babakan Fisheries Station of the Institute Pertanian Bogor, Indonesia, during the first experimental cycle of the Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program (PD/A CRSP). The station...Read more

IndonesiaEast Asia and PacificImproved Method for Fitting Gillnet Selectivity Curves to Predetermined Distributions
Published:
June 1, 1988U.S. Agency for International Development
Monte Carlo optimization with constraints was used to estimate parameters of "skew-normal" selectivity curves for gillnets. Non-linear functions of mesh size were explored in addition to the linear ones described by Wulff (1986). This methodology can be used to estimate the parameters for...Read more

Published:
May 1, 1988U.S. Agency for International Development
The objective of the program is to obtain a series of monthly length frequency distributions representing the catch of a population with known parameters (life history and fishing activity related parameters). Consequently, it is possible to verify the ability of different length frequency...Read more

Published:
January 1, 1988U.S. Agency for International Development
The primary objectives of our PSTC project were to determine the feasibility of culturing scat in brackishwater ponds, and to develop standardized techniques for its propagation. To achieve these objectives, we conducted experiments designed to 1) establish suitable pond growout strategies for scat...Read more
