The purpose of this project was to assist Djibouti's Ministry of Agriculture in its efforts to create a viable system for the improved harvesting, handling/storage and marketing of fish. At the same time, the project provided assistance toward strengthening the institutional capacity of the Fisheries Service of the MOA and to support or augment private sector initiatives in the fishing industry. The successful completion of the project was to result in an improved nutritional status for the majority of Djiboutians, as well as increased income for nearly 300 fishermen, merchants and other artisans in the fishing industry.
