Environmental justice has become an important idea for many community activists, water system workers, and water policymakers. Environmentally-just initiatives aim to remove the systemic barriers that channel environmentally damaging activities into working class communities and communities of color. The Environmental Protection Agency has established a variety of grant programs, guides, and technical assistance partnerships to help regions institute environmental justice in their communities. Whether its funds to clean up brownfields or training materials to better manage water quality, the EPA can help states, municipalities, non-profits, water providers, and community members better manage their water systems and create safe and clean water systems.
