The Covid-19 crisis has demonstrated faults in WASH systems around the world and impacted efforts to close water accessibility gaps. Climate change and migration to urban areas have made it difficult for WASH providers to build efficient delivery systems, leaving over half of the world's population without a safely managed sanitation source. The pandemic has also exacerbated water disparities and made it even more difficult to expand crucial WASH access. Local, national, and global focuses on water equity coupled with effective communication strategies and new technologies like automation could help eliminate water related issues in many developing regions.
