Aquaculture

  • Productivity and Efficiency

According to the World Resources Institute, aquaculture—or fish farming—has grown rapidly to meet world fish demand, more than doubling production between 2000 and 2012. New research shows that aquaculture production will need to more than double again between now and 2050 to meet the demands of a growing population. Resources available in this sub-theme include aquaculture development strategies, country-wide aquaculture project reports, and institutional practices for aquaculture strengthening, among other resources that support improving aquaculture globally.

Biotic Interactions Between Different Species of Algae

Published:
January 1, 1973
U.S. Agency for International Development
Species of green algae seldom grew as well in two-species cultures with other green algae, or with blue-green algae, as when cultured alone. Several species of algae apparently excreted one or more substances into the medium which inhibited the growth of the second species. Inhibition of growth of...Read more

Essentiality of Vitamin C in Feeds for Intensively Fed Caged Channel Catfish

Sources of Carbon Dioxide for Nuisance Blooms of Algae

Published:
September 1, 1972
U.S. Agency for International Development
Bacterial production of CO2 from sucrose substrate increased growth of seven species of algae of CO2-limited laboratory cultures. Decomposition of organic matter in pond water also supplied enough CO2 to support good algal growth in cultures deprived of other sources of CO2. Estimates of CO2...Read more
